Double Printing Lines
Is your printer printing everything twice or with a shadow-like second line? This issue, often called “ghosting” or “double printing,” affects the clarity and alignment of your prints.
Possible Causes:
- Misaligned printhead or cartridges
- Dirty or worn-out rollers
- Software/firmware misalignment
- Wrong paper type or settings
- Printhead not calibrated properly
DIY Solutions to Try:
- Run Printhead Alignment
Go to printer settings > Maintenance > Align Printhead or Cartridge Alignment.
Follow the on-screen steps and print a test sheet. - Clean the Printhead Manually
If automated cleaning doesn’t work, refer to your printer’s manual for how to manually clean the printhead.
Use lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol if necessary. - Use the Right Paper Settings
Check your print setup to ensure the correct paper type and size is selected.
Avoid using damp, curled, or textured paper. - Inspect the Paper Feed Rollers
Open the back panel and gently wipe the rollers with a clean, dry cloth.
Dirty rollers can pull the paper unevenly, causing misaligned text. - Update Printer Software/Firmware
A driver or firmware update can fix underlying alignment bugs.
Tips for the Future:
- Run alignment tests regularly, especially after changing cartridges.
- Store your printer in a clean area to prevent dust buildup.
- Always load paper neatly and use a flat stack.
- Avoid shaking ink cartridges—it may lead to leakage and misprints.
