Paper Tray Not Detected

You’ve loaded paper, but your printer refuses to print and shows a message like “Tray Empty” or “No Paper Detected”. This can be due to incorrect tray setup or a sensor issue.

Possible Causes:
  • Paper not seated properly in tray
  • Tray not fully inserted into printer
  • Dust on tray sensors or rollers
  • Tray settings mismatched with loaded paper size
  • Using wrinkled, curled, or damp paper
DIY Solutions to Try:
  • Adjust the Paper Stack
Remove the paper, fan it gently, and reinsert neatly.
Don’t overfill the tray—stay within the capacity limit lines.
  • Push the Tray In Firmly
Make sure the tray clicks or locks fully into position.
Some printers pause if the tray isn’t fully inserted.
  • Clean Paper Sensors
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the tray area, especially any small sensors or rollers.
Dust or bits of paper can block detection.
  • Match Paper Size in Settings
Go to printer settings and confirm the paper size (A4, Letter, etc.) matches what’s in the tray.
Incorrect settings may prevent the printer from detecting the paper.
  • Reset the Printer
Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait 30 seconds.
Plug it back in and retry printing with the tray loaded correctly.
Tips for the Future:
  • Keep the paper tray clean and dry to avoid misreads.
  • Use only fresh, flat paper in the correct orientation.
  • Don’t overload or underfill the tray—it may affect detection.
